The Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol (the Coleg) and S4C are inviting applications for a new bursary to support people from backgrounds that are underrepresented in the creative industries sector to pursue Welsh-medium or bilingual courses in this field.
The S4C Bursary was established jointly with the Coleg to encourage students who are underrepresented in the creative industries to pursue a career in the sector. The bursary is available to Black, Asian or minority ethnic students, disabled students and students from disadvantaged socio-economic backgrounds.
Up to ten bursaries worth £500 each will be awarded to students studying through the medium of Welsh or bilingually on one of the eligible courses* in the Creative Industries at a university in Wales.
Emily Pemberton, the Coleg's Equality, Diversity and Anti Racism Coordinator, said:
"We are thrilled to be launching this bursary with S4C. The bursary’s purpose is to open doors for the next generation of Welsh language talent and encourage students to take a confident step into the creative industries.
"By establishing the bursary, we hope to inspire students to study through the Welsh language, and to ensure that they feel welcomed and supported.
"It’s vital that the creative industries workforce reflects the whole of Wales, and we’re aware that there’s work to do in order to achieve that goal.
"This bursary is a practical step in the right direction, helping to attract, nurture and support students along their journey."
As well as the financial support, S4C will offer professional development opportunities including invitations to sector events, launches and other activities throughout the study period.
Sara Peacock, S4C's Head of Social Purpose, said:
"S4C is for everyone and it’s crucial that our industry is open to everyone of every background.
“Our content is at its best when it reflects the whole of Wales.
“Through the S4C Bursary, we are proud to support the on-screen stars of the future, as well as the talents behind it. I would recommend anyone who is eligible for the bursary to go for it."
The application window is open until 30 April 2026.
*The criteria, the list of eligible courses, and the application form are available on the Coleg Cymraeg website.
