The Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol is pleased to announce a new resource which includes five case studies of Welsh companies showcasing business theories for learners in further education colleges and apprentices who are studying or interested in the field of Business.

The five companies included are Sesiwn Fawr, an annual popular folk festival in Dolgellau; the famous Portmeirion hotel, which attracts thousands of visitors worldwide annually; Wales' largest independent food distribution company, Castell HowellMelin Tregwynt, the iconic woollen mill which has been established for over 110 years; and Theatr Genedlaethol Cymru.

The self-study packages and a series of films focus on and showcase the companies and workforces across Wales and learners will have the opportunity to learn more about how the theory relates to the success of the business as well as showcasing the business and career opportunities available locally in Wales.

Through watching and listening to employees from all levels and sectors, learners will also have the opportunity to hear about their experiences, and learn how the Welsh language and their location are integral to their success.

Sioned Williams, who is a lecturer at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, said

"There are so many resources out there that use examples from English companies but not as many Welsh ones. These will inspire students to use Welsh companies in their work and see further the opportunities available in Wales""

Effective collaboration between the Coleg Cymraeg and the five companies has enabled special access and exhilarating interviews to discover the essential skills needed to be successful, and get a taste of the varied and interesting jobs available here in Wales.

With the help, cooperation and enthusiasm of the companies, five business theories are being targeted, namely; Event Management, Good Customer Service, Supply Chain Management, Retail, and Team Building in Business.

Ellen Roberts, HR Manager at Portmeirion Hotel, said:

"Portmeirion is delighted to be part of this resource for students who have a desire to have a career in Business. It's an opportunity to showcase the great opportunities here in Wales for the future workforce and to communicate how important diverse personalities and teamwork are to business success and creating a feeling of family in a workplace."

Eifion Griffiths, Director of Melin Tregwynt added

"Any opportunity to show the workforce of the future that there are great opportunities within Welsh businesses and companies, who also have an international presence, is something we feel strongly about at Melin Tregwynt. Being part of the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol's Business Case Studies resource was an opportunity I didn't want to miss."

As well as video clips there are specialist theory pieces, activities and vocabulary that enrich the understanding of the theory, and Arwen, a Business student at Grŵp Llandrillo Menai has already benefited from the new resource

"It’s fantastic to see resources that use Welsh businesses for us to use in our work.  When we research online, usually English business examples pop up. It's great to discover the wide-ranging opportunities available in Wales from Welsh businesses and I'm excited for the future"

To ensure that the resource is useful for learners who are less confident  in the Welsh language, learners  can watch the videos with Welsh subtitles in order to read and listen at the same time. In addition, there is an option to use English subtitles to check vocabulary and context. For more challenging business terms, English language terms appear immediately after the Welsh language terms to facilitate the learning process.

The resource is available on the Coleg Cymraeg Resource Portal
