The Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol (the Coleg) is calling on students, learners and staff to nominate individuals who are making a significant contribution to Welsh-medium and bilingual tertiary education.
The nomination period for the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Awards for 2026 closes on 23 February 2026.
The awards celebrate the achievements of students, pupils, learners, apprentices and lecturers who have made significant contributions towards Welsh-medium and bilingual education over the year.
There are a variety of categories in different areas and the awards are an opportunity to recognise individuals who are making a contribution at their university, further education college, sixth form or in the workplace.
LAUNCH OF NEW AWARDS
In addition to the familiar categories, this year there are two new categories, one in the schools sector, and the other in health and care.
The new award for the schools sector is the Pupil Encouragement Award. The award is awarded to a teacher in a Welsh-medium and bilingual school who has motivated and supported pupils to continue their Welsh-medium studies through years 12, 13, and beyond.
The new Health and Care Award recognises an innovative project or contribution undertaken through then medium of Welsh by a learner or member of staff in the tertiary sector in the field of health and care. The project can be part of academic work, extra -curricular activity, a community initiative or professional development that contributes to strengthening the use of the Welsh language in the sector.
Nominations are welcomed from the whole tertiary sector and is an opportunity to highlight the diversity of learning methods available, as well as the vital role individuals play in developing a bilingual workforce in health and care.
Dr Ioan Matthews, Chief Executive of the Coleg, said:
"The Coleg Awards are an opportunity to recognise and commend the work and contribution of individuals across Wales towards Welsh and bilingual education in the higher education sector, further education, apprenticeships and in sixth form schools.
"Significant work is carried out by staff and students across the institutions, which in turn contributes to building a bilingual workforce in various areas.
"We look forward to receiving strong entries again this year, and to celebrating the success of the winners at the Coleg’s awards evening in the summer term."
