I'm Teleri Evans and I'm a nursing apprentice with the NHS.
It's hard to believe that a year has passed since I started my Nursing Apprenticeship with the NHS. Looking back, it has been a year of learning, challenges, new experiences, and a great sense of pride. From the first day, it was clear that this apprenticeship was a unique opportunity to combine practical work with academic learning, gaining valuable experience while earning a salary at the same time.
One of the highlights of the first year has been the practical experience on the ward and in the outpatient’s department. Being able to work alongside experienced nurses has been extremely valuable. I have learned so much through observing, asking questions, and being involved in the daily care of patients. Every day is different, which makes the work both interesting and exciting.
Academically, the first year has been challenging but very rewarding. Balancing work, study and personal responsibilities takes time to master, but with the support of Pembrokeshire College and the team at work, everything has come together. What I learn in class connects directly to what I see and do in practice, making the learning feel relevant and meaningful.
Another highlight has been the support I have received throughout the year. From mentors within the department to fellow apprentices facing similar challenges, you are never alone.
There is a strong sense of teamwork and belonging, which helps make even the more difficult days easier to manage. The first year on the NHS Nursing Apprenticeship has confirmed that I made the right choice. It has given me a solid foundation for the next few years, and I am really looking forward to continuing to develop, learn and grow as a nurse in the future.
