Blog Siwan - The Welsh Language Internationally

ADD ALT HERE

Hi! My name is Siwan, and I am a Yr. 13 pupil at Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bro Myrddin. I am currently studying History, Welsh, Drama, and the BAC, in the hope of going on to study History and Welsh at university, and all through the medium of Welsh.

I, like most young people in Wales, am an enthusiastic member of the Urdd movement, taking part annually in the Eisteddfodau, courses and so on, and have had unforgettable opportunities as a result. The Urdd has shown me the number of international opportunities available because of the ability to use the Welsh language.

Over the years the Urdd has developed international links across the world. In the USA, Kenya, New Zealand, Ireland, Brussels, Cameroon, Australia, Japan, Patagonia and more, ensuring that the Youth of Wales share their passion and enthusiasm for the Welsh language globally. The opportunities are there for you!

Just as the Urdd says, take advantage of your ability to speak Welsh to go out into the world to represent Wales and the Welsh language in addition to the aim of "building on the story of Wales as a successful, confident, vibrant and open nation.”

I had the privilege of attending and performing at a Welsh festival in Disneyland Paris when I was younger, and having that experience of using the Welsh language at an event with an overseas connection was an incredible and unforgettable opportunity. I also took part in the Urdd x TG Lurgan course, a Wales and Ireland project where we co-produced a recording using the Irish and Welsh languages.

I am very interested in countries and travel, and the ability to speak Welsh can open doors for me to create links and see the world using the Welsh language.
