On the 6th of November 2025, I attended the House of Commons in London as a Member of the UK Youth Parliament. It was a very exciting day, it was a great experience and it's one of the places where young people across the UK can voice their opinions.
The sitting was important with speakers and members of the Youth Parliament from Crown Dependent Territories and British Overseas Territories present.
The train left at 4.05 in the morning! With the hotel prices in London being very expensive because of the fireworks. The journey by train was quiet, taking us around 3 hours before arriving in London. After arriving, you had to take the underground to get to Westminster Hall.
There were many people in the Hall, around 300 members of the Youth Parliament, all the support workers and the House of Commons workers. We had the opportunity to speak to some who work in the House of Commons, including Sir Lindsay Hoyle, the speaker of the House.
There were two parts to the sitting, with around seven items on the agenda. We had the opportunity to see the chamber during the morning session, hearing speeches about Remembrance Day and past wars from our history. The speeches were powerful. The first debate focused on the speakers from Crown Dependent Territories and Overseas Territories, discussing education and Mental health, I liked hearing other people talk about the things that worry them.
The Youth Parliament’s first debate discussed housing, focusing on the cost of living, the quality of council housing and the process of receiving support.
Following the morning session, we had sandwiches for lunch. We were discussing health during the afternoon session. This is the item I wanted to discuss the most, I was lucky because I was chosen to talk about health in Wales. I was nervous, but I enjoyed the experience. After the health debate there were also discussions about crime, employment and sustainability.
The train back to Wales was very busy. Some were critical on social media the following day. There were some nasty comments because some of us had colorful hair. But after talking to others who received the same type of treatment, I felt supported. I enjoyed the day.
