Shwmae!
My name is Ffion, and I am studying a level 3 Health and Social Care course at Bridgend College. As part of the course we have to undertake 2 work placements over the 2 years.

With my placement, I went back to my primary school!

I chose to work in a special unit for pupils with additional learning needs at a Welsh-medium primary school. I believe it is so important that they have the same opportunities as children in English-medium schools, and can continue to receive their education in Welsh whatever their needs.

This placement has enabled me to create good relationships with the pupils, go on some trips with the classes, e.g. to the swimming pool and a Y5 transition day at the local comprehensive school, and enabled me to develop close relationships with the staff within the school.

I have learned a great deal about how to teach children with additional learning needs (ALN). I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to go to this school on a placement. I really enjoyed it, and had the opportunity to use my Welsh-language skills regularly. Before doing the work experience, I was certain that I wanted to work in the care sector, and maybe for the NHS, but this experience has made me consider working in education instead.

Following the work placement, I registered with a supply agency, and I hope to start working in Welsh-medium schools after Easter on a part time basis. Then, maybe next year, I will continue in the school in order to gain a little more experience before deciding in which sector I would like to work in the future.
