In partnership between Literature Wales, School of Welsh, Bangor University and the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, there will be an opportunity for 15 pupils studying A-Level Welsh (AS/A2) to spend a creative residential weekend at the National Writing Center for Wales, Tŷ Newydd, Llanystumdwy, 21-23 November, 2025. The weekend - to include accommodation, food (breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks), drink and workshops - is offered at no cost.
Throughout the weekend there will be lively creative workshops led by poets, writers and playwrights who have won several awards and national and international success. There are poetry, prose, screenwriting for drama and television workshops, as well as guest readings from Wales' most exciting writers. A copy of the draft timetable will be below in due course.
This is an amazing opportunity to inspire and to ignite the pupils' interest and pleasure in creative writing and to highlight what the Welsh language offers as a field of experience and a career path. In addition, it will give pupils from all over Wales the opportunity to come together to socialize and find compatible soul mates.
All the pupils need to do is fill in an information form, an equality monitoring form and submit a piece of creative work of no more than 2,000 words by 13:00pm on 13th October. This work can be coursework that has already been used in class. Application form link below.
A representative from the School of Welsh, Bangor University, Literature Wales and the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol will select the 15 and inform the pupils of the award by the end of October.
