Hello, my name is Osian-Wyn, and I'm in my second year at CAVC (Cardiff and Vale College) studying Creative Media Production and Technology.
I have been in Welsh-medium education since nursery class so when I chose to go to CAVC I was a little concerned that I would lose the opportunity to write and learn in Welsh.
But I was very shocked. My teacher has encouraged me to use Welsh in my work and is happy to help. In addition to the course I'm doing, I had to resit maths GCSE, and because I had studied maths through the medium of Welsh at school, I thought I would have to learn the terminology again in English, but the college was happy to provide materials to help, for example a copy of the examination in Welsh.
During my first year a Welsh language band called Dagrau Tân came to the college, which enabled students to hear the Welsh language. Also, the College has a magazine, Sŵn, which discusses Welsh language music, events and much more, and is free for anyone at college.
I only recently found out about Coleg Cymraeg, so when I saw the ambassador role I was happy to take it on, and promote the Welsh language within CAVC. I hope to be able to combine the work of music photography and Welsh language events within the college and demonstrate that the Welsh language can help in the future.
I would never have been able to do some of the jobs I now do if I didn't speak Welsh. And I also hope to get people excited about the Welsh language, music and events, for example the Eisteddfod, Tafwyl and Gŵyl Fach y Fro.
