The Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol is inviting applications from undergraduate students for the Dr Llŷr Roberts Memorial Bursary.

The bursary is available to undergraduate students studying through the medium of Welsh in any subject to support a trip related to their studies.

The Coleg will award up to £2,000 annually with up to four awards of around £500 to each successful student.

The bursary was announced at the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Annual Congregation at Bangor University in March to remember Dr Llŷr Roberts, one of the Coleg Cymraeg's first and brightest associate lecturers who passed away suddenly in June 2023 aged 45.

Dr Ioan Matthews, Chief Executive of the Coleg, said:

"In a short time Llŷr made a great impression on his co-workers and students.

He was passionate about the Welsh language, about business studies and marketing, about music and travel. His legacy is clear, and I am delighted that the Coleg has established this bursary, with the support of Llŷr's family and Bangor University, to support the next generation of students with their Welsh studies."

Full details of the bursary can be found on the Coleg Cymraeg website, and the application form should be submitted to Gwobrau@colegcymraeg.ac.uk by noon, 17 June 2024. The successful candidates will be announced at the National Eisteddfod in Rhondda Cynon Taf in August 2024.

Llŷr was one of the first Associate Lecturers of the Coleg Cymraeg and went on to make a multi-faceted contribution to Welsh-medium higher education in Business at the University of South Wales, Cardiff Metropolitan University and most recently, at Bangor University. Llŷr received national acclaim for his work, and won an award, 'Outstanding Welsh Medium Resource' from the Coleg for developing the first ever e-book in Welsh language marketing.
