Mari Williams, 19, from Blaenau Ffestiniog has been awarded the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol Gwilym Prys Davies Scholarship worth £3,000
The Gwilym Prys Davies Scholarship is awarded to an individual who studies at least 66% of their Law degree course through the medium of Welsh and is from the Meirionydd or Rondda Cynon Taf areas.
Mari, who was a pupil at Ysgol y Moelwyn before achieving her A levels in Welsh, Business and History at Coleg Meirion Dwyfor, has won the scholarship to study Law at Bangor University.
Mari said:
"I was surprised and happy to learn that I had won this year's Gwilym Prys Davies Scholarship.
"I am very grateful to the Coleg Cymraeg for the funding that I will receive each year of my course, but more than that it is an honour to receive recognition in the name of Gwilym Prys Davies.
"I've been enjoying my course at Bangor University since I settled here. I'm looking forward to continuing my studies and then I hope to gain experience and skills overseas, before returning to Wales to work as a bilingual solicitor in the future."
The Gwilym Prys Davies Scholarship was established in 2018 in the name of the distinguished solicitor, Lord Gwilym Prys Davies of Llangryn, Meirionnydd. The scholarship is worth £1,000 a year (or £3,000 over three years).
Dr Ioan Matthews, Chief Executive of Coleg Cymraeg, said:
"On behalf of the Coleg, I would like to congratulate Mari on winning this year's scholarship and wish her every success in the future as she studies Law at Bangor University. I would also like to express our appreciation to Gwilym Prys Davies’ family for their generous support over the years."
