PGCE PcET Mentoring Scheme

Mentoring scheme for students following the PGCE PcET course

If you are currently studying a PGCE PcET course, speak Welsh, and want to use Welsh in your career, this scheme is for you.

The PGCE PcET Mentoring Scheme is a scheme that matches students on the PGCE PcET course with an experienced mentor who speaks Welsh and works in the sector. Your mentor will offer you individual sessions on working in the sector, and specifically how they use the Welsh language in their work every day.

Who can be part of the scheme?

Any student on a PGCE PcET course in Wales who speaks Welsh and wants to know more about using their Welsh skills in the workplace can join.

You are eligible if you...

  • Are a Welsh speaker
  • Study a PGCE PcET 
  • Intend to teach any subject
  • Study part time or full time

 

Who are the mentors?

Lecturers in further education colleges who

  • Work in the sector in Wales
  • Use their Welsh skills in the workplace

How does it work?

Students and a mentor are matched, and the mentor will offer 6 online mentoring sessions, one hour each, for FREE to the students, during their PGCE course.

PGCE PcET Mentoring Scheme 24-25

A scheme for Welsh speakers who are studying on the PGCE PcET course.

Do you want to know more about using the Welsh language in the post-compulsory sector in Wales and benefit from an experienced mentor?

We are offering students who are studying a PGCE PcET course, who are studying any subject, who speak Welsh, and who want to know more about using the Welsh language in the post-compulsory sector an opportunity to take part in the PGCE PcET Mentoring Scheme 24-25.

What will be included?

  • 6 mentoring sessions (one hour each) with a lecturer at a further education college who can share experiences with you

The mentoring sessions will be an opportunity for you to understand more about how lecturers use the Welsh language in their everyday work and the experience of being a lecturer in the post-compulsory sector in Wales. It will also be an opportunity to ask questions to someone who has been through the process recently and to get honest answers.

PGCE PcET Mentoring Scheme 24-25

Do you want to share your expertise and experiences as a lecturer?

We are looking for people like you to be mentors to students in various subject areas who want to know more about using their Welsh skills as lecturers in the further education sector in Wales.

You will need to:

  • Be a lecturer in a further education college
  • Speak Welsh
  • Have completed a PGCE course or equivalent
  • Attend 2 hours of online training during October 2023 (paid at £30 per hour*)
  • Offer 6 mentoring sessions, one hour each during the academic year (paid at £30 per hour*)
  • Set aside up two hours for organising and feedback (paid at £30 per hour*)

The mentoring sessions will be an opportunity for the students to understand more about how you use the Welsh language in your everyday work and the experience of being a lecturer in the post-compulsory sector in Wales. The intention is to inspire students to use the Welsh language in their career in the post-compulsory sector in Wales.

*The payments will contribute to your taxable income for the year.

  • Develop your professional and leadership skills
  • Contribute to the bilingual further education workforce of the future
  • Earn £300 (£30 per hour for 10 hours)
