Time Management and Organisation

It is important to set aside time to complete your work, as well as any other tasks you have outside of your course. A timetable will enable you to be organised, meaning you can enjoy socialising without worrying too much about your workload!

Managing Spending

Spend wisely! At university, it’s easy to spend money without realising. Set a weekly spending limit, or be as efficient as possible by dividing your money into different categories—e.g., food, socialising, rent, etc. That said, don’t put too much financial pressure on yourself—enjoying is the most important thing.

Mental Wellbeing

Going to university is a big change, and it can be quite difficult at first. Prioritise sleep and make sure that you’re eating well, and if things feel overwhelming, every university has support available. Take everything one day at a time.

Socialising

Join as many societies as you can! There are many groups, and it’s a great opportunity to make new friends. Seize every opportunity and make the most of what’s around you. Social life is just as important as the educational experience, and everyone is in the same boat, so be friendly, enjoy yourself, and be yourself!

Sport

Interested in sport? Join a team! Joining a sports team is one of the best ways to get to know others and develop your skills and fitness. If you don’t play a sport or haven’t had much interest in sports in the past, university is a great place to start. So many students take up completely new sports during their studies – so why not give it a go?

Workload

The work and teaching methods will differ significantly from school or college. You need to take responsibility and be independent, so remember to take notes and ask questions if something doesn’t make sense. Take advantage of the resources offered by your university and the Coleg Cymraeg – and remember to take plenty of breaks while working!
