Dr Myfanwy Davies, Senior lecturer in social policy at Bangor University, has been appointed Chair of the Gwerddon Editorial Board, following an open nomination process and vote among Board members.
Gwerddon is the Coleg Cymraeg's multidisciplinary research e-journal publishing original Welsh research articles in a wide range of academic fields.
Myfanwy began her three-year term on 1 September 2024, and succeeds Dr Paula Roberts.
Myfanwy is originally from Llanelli and received her education at the universities of Oxford, Cambridge, Sheffield and London before working at universities in France and returning to Cardiff University to lead a range of research projects in health and wellbeing. She has won over £1.5 million in research funding mainly in women's health, with over half of that as a research leader.
Myfanwy said,
"It is a privilege to follow in Paula's footsteps in this role. She had a vision for Gwerddon as a truly interdisciplinary medium and a firm attachment to the development of young researchers, and scientists in particular, and I will continue this important work.
"Over the past few years, I have seen Gwerddon develop into a valuable forum for Welsh-speaking scholars. I am keen to deepen Gwerddon's role as a vehicle for collaboration and development of new research, and as a resource for younger researchers, particularly through the relationship with Coleg Cymraeg's research conferences. I'm also keen to expand Gwerddon's use and awareness of it among non-Welsh speaking colleagues."
Professor Anwen Jones, editor of Gwerddon, said:
"We are delighted to welcome Myfanwy as the new chair of the board. With her vast experience, expertise and vision, I look forward to working together and supporting her efforts to further develop Gwerddon over the next period"
