The full program for the Coleg’s Research Conference on 29 June 2021 is now available, and offers something for everyone.

This is a great opportunity to hear more about recent developments in research through the medium of Welsh - the presentations will address issues such as euthanasia, the AmGen Eisteddfod, and language choice in the birth room. Some of the titles of the papers include:

  • ‘Mercy Killing: Creating a defence to murder in assisted death circumstances’ Lois Nash, Bangor University, School of Law
  • ‘Biosecurity on UK livestock farms: An insight into current practice and attitudes’ Cennydd Jones, Aberystwyth University, IBERS
  • ‘Retaining and sustaining teachers within the profession: a study of what needs to be nurtured in prospective teachers and sustained throughout a career in education’ Rhian Tomos, Bangor University, School of Education
  • ‘Virtual stages in a field without borders: analysing the 2020 AmGen Eisteddfod’ Nici Beech, University of Wales Trinity Saint David

And much more!

The main purpose of the conference is to give the next generation of Welsh speaking academics the opportunity to present their research to an audience of peers. More experienced lecturers and practitioners from various fields are invited to join the Conference, to share their expertise with the contributors and partake in the spirit of inter-institutional collaboration accross various disciplines.

Lois McGrath, Research and Training Development Officer at the Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol, said: “I'm pleased that we are able to host the conference online again this year, though it would be nice to see everyone in person. We received a significant number of submissions for the Conference, and the program is full of fascinating research across a wide range of topics. There's something here for everyone. The conference will be a combination of live and shorter pre-recorded presentations, and everyone who conducts or is interested in scholarly research through the medium of Welsh is warmly invited to attend."

Bedwyr ab Ion Thomas, a PhD student presenting at the conference, said:“I'm really looking forward to taking part in the Research Conference. It's a great opportunity for me to try to apply what I've learned from the Research Skills Program over the last two years, and a great opportunity to network with academics from very different fields!”

The Conference starts at 9:30 on Tuesday 29 June, and the programme will include a series of live and shorter pre-recorded presentations– delegates will have the opportunity to ask questions to all the contributors during the day.

A copy of the full program, which includes a biography of the contributors and a summary of the research papers, is available here: Conference Program

In the coming week, the Coleg will be releasing research posters that can be enjoyed in advance, and there will be an opportunity to vote for your favorite poster during the conference, with a chance for the author of the winning poster to win £50.
